Dental Implants at Adelaide Dental Spa

Have a missing tooth? Dental implants are the next best thing to having a real one all over again. We consider dental implants to be the ultimate treatment for replacing missing teeth or in full mouth reconstruction. Why? Because they’re designed to mimic the look, feel and function of your natural smile.

Benefits of Getting Implants

Illustration of dental implantDental implants offer tremendous advantages over other types of tooth replacement options. Here are just some of the benefits that make them our treatment of choice:

  • Prevent sunken-in facial profiles
  • Are non-invasive to your adjacent teeth
  • Feel and function similar to real teeth
  • Preserve natural tooth spacing
  • Are easy to care for
  • Can last the rest of your life
  • Are stronger than natural teeth
  • Can replace single or multiple teeth

Implants are suitable for anyone with one, two or multiple missing teeth. If you don’t like the idea of having a removable denture, implants make it possible to permanently fix a restoration in place. There’s nothing to worry about taking in and out at the end of the day. Plus, they have the highest success rate of any modern dental procedure.

However, there are some people who don’t qualify for implant therapy, such as individuals who smoke or those with diabetes.

To make sure you qualify, you’ll need to have a brief consultation to evaluate the health of your mouth and integrity of the bone that’s needed to support your implants.

Our practice provides the restorative phase of implant therapy, meaning we top off your implant with a fixed restoration after a specialist has installed the implant. Since there’s no surgery or invasive procedures involved, you won’t even need to be numbed during this portion of your implant treatment!

The restorative phase of implant therapy is usually about 4-6 months after your implants are installed. At this point, they should be fully integrated with your jaw so that they’re a permanent part of your smile.

Depending on how many implants you have and the number of teeth that are missing, our two more popular implant restorations include:

  • Implant Crowns — For one missing tooth, you’ll have an individual implant placed in the gap. We’ll top it off with a porcelain crown that looks like the same crown design we place on other teeth. The only difference is that the underside is fabricated to fit an implant abutment instead of a prepped tooth.
  • Implant Bridges — A pair of dental implants can support a multi-tooth dental bridge. These bridges look just like other traditional bridges, except they replace more than one or two teeth. Implant bridges can replace 3-4 teeth at a time, since each end is attached on top of an individual implant.

It’s also possible to stabilise removable dentures on top of a pair of implants, for added security throughout the day.
